How the 2-2-5-5 schedule works
- Parent 1 always has Monday and Tuesday nights; parent 2 always has Wednesday and Thursday.
- Weekends, Friday to Sunday, alternate between the parents.
- Together with their weeknights, the weekend becomes a 5-night stay every other week.
- There are 4 exchanges every two weeks.
Pros
- The same weeknights every week, so school and activities are easy to plan.
- Fewer exchanges than 2-2-3, with equal time and alternating weekends.
Cons
- Five nights away from a parent can feel long for very young children.
- Both parents need to live near the school.

Questions
- What is a 2-2-5-5 custody schedule?
- A 50/50 rotation where each parent has fixed weeknights (2 nights each) and the weekends alternate, making stays of 2, 2, 5 and 5 nights over two weeks.
- Is 2-2-5 the same as 2-2-5-5?
- Yes. Both names describe the same rotation; 2-2-5 counts the 5-night stay once, and 5-2-2-5 starts counting from the weekend.
- How many exchanges does a 2-2-5-5 schedule have?
- Four every two weeks, two fewer than 2-2-3.
- Is 2-2-5-5 good for school-age children?
- Many families pick it for school years because each parent has the same school nights every week. Your parenting plan decides what is right for your family.
These are calendar layouts, not legal advice. Your parenting plan or court order decides your schedule.
